VSC & the Harpoon Point to Point

The 7th annual Harpoon Point to Point was held on August 16th, and this year two riders from CCV joined up with a group from Johnson and a rider from Lyndon to create a pedaling superpower. At last count, Team VSC has raised over $1300 to support the efforts of the Vermont Foodbank.

The day began with sunshine, temperatures in the 60’s -70’s, and only a 30% chance of scattered showers. Riders hit their saddles anticipating a beautiful ride for a good cause. There were a few surprises along the way, but the torrential rain, hail storms, thunder and lightning could not deter these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rides. Rides were 114, 50, and 25 miles long. Darlene Murphy and Angie Albeck from CCV each completed the 50 mile leg.

Did you know?

  • Each year, 10% of Vermont citizens visit a food shelf at some point.
  • 28% of Vermont FoodBank clients choose between paying for food and buying medicine.
  • 38% of Vermont Foodbank clients have to choose between food and paying for heat.
  • Over the past 10 years, the number of families accessing food shelves has increased by 50%.
  • Vermont FoodBank has been serving Vermont communities since 1986.

  1. Awesome job, everyone! I can say first hand that you guys made us so proud! Competing with lighting, rain and HAIL is not an easy thing to do, neither is riding more than 25 miles in one day!

Thanks for supporting the Foodbank once again. I'll be sure to let you all know the final results.

Also, if you have any more pictures from the hail storm, I'd love to get a copy.
